BRADLEY Wood will have a lump in his throat when he makes his Blundell Park return on Saturday.

However, the former Grimsby Town full-back insists he will be focused on one thing only – earning three points for Alfreton Town.

The 21-year-old was released by the Mariners in May after progressing through the Youth team and making a century of first-team appearances.

Now with Nicky Law's part-timers, he has played every minute for the Reds this campaign.

And after two wins from their last two outings, Wood and co head to Cleethorpes full of confidence.

"I'm looking forward to going back to Blundell Park, but it's important for me to look at it as just another game of football," he said.

"I'm not one for holding grudges and I'm not out to prove a point – I'm just there to play to my best.

"It would be great to get a good reception. The Town fans were great with me throughout my time there.

"We had some good times, like Wembley, and some very bad times, especially when we got relegated.

"But the one thing you can say about the fans is that they are fiercely loyal and will get behind you if you give everything.

"There are quite a few supporters who still ask me how I'm getting on.

"I only met them when I came to Grimsby as a youngster to play football, so they are fantastic fans.

"I'm sure there will be a lump in my throat on Saturday, but first and foremost I will be there to do a job for Alfreton Town."

The visitors head into the clash 11 places above the Mariners in the early-season Conference table.

And the home supporters will know exactly what to expect from the opposition right-back.

"Every game I went into for Grimsby, I gave everything," added Wood. "And people watching on the sidelines can't really ask for more.

"I've kept an eye on Town because I've still got some good mates there, and I genuinely hope they do well.

"I spent so long at the club and it's still there in my heart – Grimsby Town gave me my chance."
