IF SOMEBODY tries to sell you something cheap, on your doorstep, then chances are it is probably either counterfeit and/or stolen. This is the message that police want to send to the people of North East Lincolnshire after a woman bought five televisions that did not work from a doorstep trader. On Wednesday, July 24, a woman, who is from East Halton, was engaged in conversation with a number of men who were travelling in a white van. The men advised the woman that they were in the area to deliver a number of televisions and asked if she would like to see one. The woman and her partner looked at the items and purchased five of the televisions for a very low price. The televisions, some still in their "original" packaging, were delivered to their property and the men then drove away. The woman then spent some time placing the five televisions in a number of locations around her home when it became apparent that they did not work and the men had stolen her money. The men advised the woman that all of the televisions were in very good working order, they came fully equipped with all the relevant equipment and they were all brand new. Police are warning people and asking them to think that if someone tries to sell you something that sounds too good to be true then it probably is. People who are selling these items, be it stolen or counterfeit, are often very convincing and will sell at very cheap prices to get rid of the items and get their hands on your money. Thieves sell items door to door in order to make cash and as a way to get rid of the stolen item as quickly as possible. The items can range from small things such as DVDs, CDs and food to more expensive items such as mobile phones, laptops and televisions. Anyone who is approached and asked to buy such items is asked to call 101 and report these people to police. It could be your items they are selling on to an unsuspecting customer.
