WHEELS were in fundraising motion at the 14th Emma-Jayne Memorial Fund bikeathon.
The bikeathon and fun walk took place on Sunday starting and finishing from the Royal Oak at Little Cawthorpe, near Louth.
The annual fundraiser is organised by Ruth and Tony Knowles, of Sutton-on- Sea, in memory of their daughter, Emma-Jayne, to raise as much money as they can to buy equipment for the neurosurgical unit, ward 40, at Hull Royal Infirmary.
The ward treated Emma-Jayne, pictured, who died from an inoperable brain tumour in 1998, just two weeks before her 23rd birthday.
Cyclists took part in either a 12 or 30-mile route and there was also a three-and-a-half mile fun walk.
Ruth said: "We had another excellent day and on the day we raised £4,846.50. We had well over 300 people turn out and the weather conditions were just right for cycling and walking.
"Everybody said what a fantastic day they had and how well organised it is.
"Tony and I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who took part, Your Move at Sutton-on- Sea for providing the chocolate bars, Huttoft Service Station for providing the water for walkers, Louth Cycle Centre for providing free cycle hire and Tim and Lindsey at the Royal Oak as well as the team from Hull Royal Infirmary who came to take part.
"We also particularly thank the volunteers and the marshals – without them the fundraiser would not be able to go ahead."
The fund is currently raising money to pay for a Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator – a dissecting device that uses ultrasonic frequencies to fragment tissue, a slimline slide drying hotplate to be used in the laboratory and a block trimmer also for the laboratory.
Any sponsorship money should be sent to the Emma-Jayne Memorial Fund, Emmasholme, 4 Park Road East, Sutton-on-Sea, Lincolnshire LN12 2NL.
