DESPITE strong rivalry, fans at Scunthorpe United's derby match with Grimsby Town ensured that football was the centre of attention at Glanford Park.
Scunthorpe police were at the town's railway station around noon today (Saturday July 20) to keep watch on Grimsby Town fans arriving for the afternoon kick-off, but officers were clear it was merely a precautionary measure.
No trouble was reported, with a number of Mariners' followers heading for nearby pubs.
The police contingent included a dog van and other vehicles.
The Lincolnshire Cup tie finished in a victory for the Iron, but other than raised voices and bravado, no trouble was reported from the match.
A minor scuffle was mentioned on social networking site Twitter among Grimsby Town fans in the ground, but was not described as anything serious.
