Alford beat champions in exciting weekend programme

FOURTH-PLACED Alford & District beat reigning Premier Division champions Scunthorpe Town by 100 runs in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League's game of the day.

But Cleethorpes 2nds remain at the foot of the table following their five-wicket defeat by second-placed Messingham.

Barton Town managed a 91-run home win over lowly Bracebridge Heath 2nds, while mid-table Caistor Town won handsomely against Cherry Willingham.

In Division One, there was a glut of runs at the Tetney Lane ground with Holton-le-Clay losing to Owmby after setting the visitors a target of 217.

Horncastle suffered a seven-wicket reverse against runaway leaders Broughton, while Louth 2nds lost to second-placed Appleby-Frodingham 2nds.

Performance of the day in Division Two came from Keelby, who rattled up 274 runs on their way to victory at Nettleham 2nds.

In Division Three, South Kelsey continued their revival after a poor start to the season with an emphatic eight-wicket defeat of Broughton 2nds – another of the lowly sides.

Grimsby side Laportes went down by three wickets against Market Rasen 2nds, while Barton Town 2nds lost by 13 runs on their visit to Outcasts 2nds.

The Division Four programme was dominated by Holton-le-Clay 2nds, who registered a 21-run defeat at high-flying Morton, in Gainsborough.

Meanwhile, Keelby 2nds improved their chances of avoiding having to apply for re-election to the league when they secured an 18-run home win over Old Lincolnians 2nds.

In the Bob Welton Cup, Cleethorpes 3rds exited at the quarter-final stage, losing to Scothern 2nds.
