COUNCIL officers have ordered an unlawfully demolished house on Humberston Avenue is rebuilt.
As reported, North East Lincolnshire Council took enforcement action against the owners of the site, who bought the £500,000 in March only to pull it down within a matter of days, without first seeking planning consent.
Under the order, the house must be rebuilt to its original plans within six months of July 15 - although the owners do have a right to appeal the decision.
They have also been summoned to appear before Grimsby Magistrates on Friday,June 28, charged with the alleged removal of a protected ash tree and an alleged breach of building regulations at the same property.
Ross Hewson, son of landowner Stuart Hewson – who wants to build 400 homes on land behind the site where the three-storey property stood – told the Grimsby Telegraph they were behind the demolition at a public consultation on the plans.
However, a spokesman for NELC said the demolition was unlawful as there was no prior notification of their intention to demolish it as required planning regulations.
Residents also said they were "disturbed" by the "ruthless demolition" of number 54, while the property's previous owners Peter and Jennifer Watts said they had been unaware of the buyer's intentions.
