AN INVESTIGATION into the deaths of two men who died when their car crashed on the Great Coates level crossing is continuing.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said the incident was still being treated as a "tragic accident".

He said: "The investigation is ongoing by officers who are preparing the file for the coroner."

Paul Hodge and David Williams were killed when their car was in collision with a westbound train as they drove home from work at Immingham Docks on April 9 at 7.35pm, as reported.

Mr Hodge, a 47-year-old grandfather, of Sutcliffe Avenue, Grimsby, died from head injuries.

Mr Hodge worked on Immingham Docks de-waxing cars, and had lived in Grimsby all of his life.

He was a loving father, grandfather, son and brother, was an avid football fan and served in the Forces.

Mr Williams, 40, of Cleethorpes, died from the multiple injuries he sustained. He was due to marry Carolyn Woodward, who called her fiancé her "rock". They had moved to the area last January from Blackpool.

At the time of the tragic incident, their workmates described them as "like brothers".

One said: "Losing them feels like losing a family member.

"The lads were brilliant people, always smiling, happy and would get stuck into anything given to them.

"They were fun-loving, joking, hard-working.

"No one has a bad word to say about them."
