A MAN who fell 20ft onto concrete sea defences at Grimsby's Royal Dock is expected to be back at work as early as next week.
It has been confirmed the man – who has not been named, but is said to be around 40 years old – had a lucky escape, suffering only minor injuries as a result of the incident.
As reported, the accident happened at about 4.15pm on Thursday as the man waited for a ship to dock.
A colleague raised the alarm and Humberside Fire and Rescue teams from Peaks Lane, supported by a specialist unit from Immingham, were sent to the scene.
They used ropes and a basket to haul him to safety and he was treated by ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.
A spokesman for the fire service said he had suffered shoulder, neck and spinal injuries.
However, a spokeswoman for ABP said his injuries had been minor.
She said: "We can confirm that at around 4.15pm on Thursday afternoon an ABP employee was involved in a minor accident, having slipped down a bank while waiting for a vessel to berth.
"The emergency services were called and he was immediately taken to hospital. We are pleased to report that he was not seriously hurt and was discharged yesterday evening. We expect him to be back at work next week."
The Health and Safety Executive confirmed it was aware of the incident, but it would not be launching an investigation due to its minor nature.
