"IT will be nice playing alongside Dis next season – instead of trying to crunch him!"

Grimsby Town's latest signing Scott Kerr has had his fair share of battles with his new midfield partner-in-crime Craig Disley.

The pair have squared off against each other on a number of occasions in their long careers – mainly during Disley's time with Bristol Rovers.

But after Kerr signed a one-year deal at Blundell Park last week, they will now find themselves playing alongside each other in the heart of the Mariners' midfield next season.

And Kerr says it will make a 'nice change' to be lining up next to Town's skipper, instead of going into battle with him.

"He's a good player, Dis, and I know from speaking to some people that he had a good season last time around," Kerr told the Telegraph.

"We've had some good battles over the years – especially in the play-offs when he was at Bristol Rovers.

"But it will be nice playing alongside him this season and passing to him, rather than trying to tackle him. I know Dis really well, so I'm looking forward to meeting up with him again."

Disley isn't the only member of the Mariners squad that Kerr has prior knowledge of.

He has played against fellow Yorkshireman Joe Colbeck as well as Andi Thanoj, and is already familiar with many of his new team-mates.

Therefore, knowing the quality within the Mariners' squad, Kerr is confident that Town can have a genuine tilt at the Conference title next season.

He continued: "As well as Dis, I know a lot of the other lads that are already here which is nice.

"I've played against Joe (Colbeck) a lot of times and know him with him being from the Bradford area.

"It's a really strong squad of players and the players that came in at the start of the season have done really well.

"Andy Cook – although I don't know him personally – did really well last year after coming from Barrow and will be a big player for us this season.

"I like Andi (Thanoj) in midfield. Having played against him, it's clear that he's a good player with a lot of potential.

"Shaun Pearson did really well at centre-half and, having watched the Trophy final against Wrexham, it was clear that James McKeown, who had a cracking game that day, is a top, top keeper.

"There is a really good squad here, and with additions over the summer, like myself and Scott Neilson, I'm confident we'll be fighting for the title next season."
