GRIMSBY Town fans have already started to provide touching tributes to Kevin Moore after the club opened a book of condolence for the Mariners legend.

As reported, Moore passed away in April after a long battle with Pick's Disease, a rare form of dementia. He was 55.

Moore played over 400 appearances for Town before going on to play for Southampton, Bristol Rovers and Fulham.

In his memory, the club have opened a book of condolence in the club shop and have invited fans to pay their respects.

The completed book, which was opened on Monday, will be presented to Moore's family.

Steve Wraith, the club's accounts manager, said: "We've had plenty of fans coming into the club shop this week and the book of condolence to Kevin is very prominent.

"It's nice that people are noticing it and deciding to write a message in memory of him.

"The book is a fantastic way for fans to remember him.

"It's also an opportunity for the fans who weren't lucky enough to see him play to pay to their respects to a club legend.

"A lot of people have already written about what a great player he was for this club but all have said what a great person he was."

He continued: "The first quote in the book isn't necessarily a footballing quote – it just says that he was 'a gentleman' and he was.

"We all remember Kev and he was a very, very nice guy and the fans knew that.

"It shows that in times like this, it's not always about football."

Fans who are unable to make it to Blundell Park can still add their tributes to the book of condolence by using the online form on the club's website.

The club is also holding a collection for the Niemann-Pick Disease Group, which provides support for those affected by the disease.

Wraith added: "I was working here when Kevin was playing in the 80s before he left and I, like many fans at the time, remember him being a true leader.

"Today's players should look to emulate the likes of Kevin – he was a great player and a gentleman."

The book is available to sign until Saturday, August 31. For more information, visit www.gtfc.co.uk.
