NEW charges for residents' parking permits in North East Lincolnshire will come into force on January 1, the council has confirmed.
As reported, the proposed 433 per cent increase – from £15 to £80 per year – was due to take effect on November 1.
But the council has moved the date to allow two petitions opposing the hike to go before Cabinet on November 5.
It has also extended the consultation period on which schemes will continue until Friday.
Jason Longhurst, the council's head of development, said: "I recognise that the changes to residents' parking permit schemes have been contentious, but we are continuing to implement the policy and we expect to have schemes up and running for residents who want them from the start of 2013.
"We still believe that our policy is the right one, and that the taxes from residents should not be used to subsidise localised permits."
