GRIMSBY snooker player Stuart Carrington could have two opportunities to re-qualify for the sport's professional ranks.
The 22-year-old earned a pro ticket at the 2011 Q School but was unable to retain his place for the following season, and missed out at this year's qualification event.
The former England junior is once again competing on the UK Players Tour Championship and European Tour circuit as an amateur, building up to next year's Q School – which sees amateurs compete across three events to reach the quarter-finals, thereby earning one of 12 professional tickets.
But Carrington is on track to earn another crack at reaching the Main Tour amid a good run of form.
In two amateur events that have run alongside the PTC series, Carrington has reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals. There are two events to play.
The top-12 performing players across the series will compete in a play-off for three pro tickets next May.
Carrington, pictured, at present is ranked second.
After struggling early in the season, the Grimsby man has reached the second round proper of the PTC 3 and ET 3 events, beating six amateurs in the process.
On both those occasions, he lost to the eventual winner – Rod Lawler and Mark Allen respectively.
World number nine Allen beat Carrington 4-1 on his way to winning the ET 3 in style – he racked up three consecutive centuries when he beat Mark Selby 4-1 in the final of the event, held in Antwerp, Belgium.
"My results are slowly getting better and so are my performances," said Carrington.
"I keep losing to the eventual winner so at least that shows me that no-one else can beat them either!"
