TOWN fans were too "down in the dumps" to buy tickets today – although the club is expecting sales to pick up tomorrow.
Accounts manager Steve Wraith said that Grimsby Town only sold 70 tickets today – 600 in total – for the Newport away play-off match after they lost the first leg last night due to an own goal in the final few minutes.
However, Mr Wraith, who spent the day in the ticket office, expects a rush in the next few days to buy tickets for Sunday's crucial match – which could take them to the play-off final at Wembley.
He added: "Last night was disappointing and I think that fans just need 24 hours to recover – people are still a bit down in the dumps today.
"The manner in which they lost is what's upsetting because it was late in the game and the referee's decision that led to the goal was questionable.
"But it's only half time and it's only one goal so we still have a really good chance of going there and winning – especially with our away form.
"We'll have a good crowd and no matter what happens, we'll be taking more than the three hundred and something they brought to Grimsby last night."
But if you can't make the five-and-a-half-hour journey to Newport on Sunday, The McMenemy's Suite will be showing both play-off games.
It opens at 12.30pm and tickets cost £3 for adults and £2 for children – which includes a drink – but you must book to guarantee entry.
And don't forget, the ticket desk at Blundell Park is open 9am-5pm tomorrow and 9am-12pm on Saturday.
It will be a comeback that no Grimsby fan wants to miss if it takes them to Wembley – and Mr Wraith thinks trailing a goal might not be such a bad thing.
He added: "Going in to a game with a 1-0 lead is dangerous because you don't know whether to attack or defend so at lease our players will start on the front foot because they know what they have to do."
