A NEW multi-million-pound housing development has opened in Grimsby.
And househunters need look no further than Frederick Street and Elizabeth Mews, where new homes have been welcomed by Councillor Mike Burton, Mayor of North East Lincolnshire.
A total of 33 new homes were built in two stages – the first finishing in April and the second in September.
The majority of properties are occupied, but there are still a few left on the market.
Acis Group – the housing association behind this development – invited the Mayor and his wife, Mayoress Audrey Burton, to the official opening of the project.
They were also joined by representatives from Acis and Keigar homes, the contractors.
Valerie Waby, chief executive for Acis, said: "The overall project cost £3.46 million and consists of 23 rental properties and ten rent-to-buy homes.
"We are very pleased with how it has all gone, the properties are very well designed and would suit any family, couple or individual.
"This project has not just provided people in Grimsby with new homes, it also created new job opportunities while the work was carried out."
The development is built on the former site of the Queens Hall Cinema which later became the Queens Bingo Club before it closed down in 2008.
Within the overall cost for the project, £1.4 million was received by Acis from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Mr Burton is delighted with the look of the homes, especially after having a look inside one.
He said: "Grimsby is desperately in need of affordable houses and these are just perfect.
"I like the look of them. They bring their own character to the area and I believe they will enhance the lives of any family who lives here.
"There is a modern design throughout, and I think the work has been carried out very well.
"You can see just how popular they are with the amount already filled – I do not think it will be long before they all come off the market."
Mrs Burton said: "Homes like this are in high demand across Grimsby.
"These seem to have been placed in a perfect location and look very stylish.
"I can imagine a family having many happy years living here as the layout is just superb.
"I am pleased myself and Mike were invited to the official opening of the development, and I hope that the people already living in the properties are very happy."
