A HUMBLE mum who is helping her daughter through an eating disorder has been crowned Mum Of The Year 2013.
Out of 12 finalists, you have voted Mandy Deacon to be crowned number one in the contest organised by the Grimsby Telegraph and St Andrew's Hospice.
After securing 42.1 per cent of the votes, the self-employed hairdresser can take some time out to relax and enjoy pampering sessions, a meal and an overnight stay in a popular hotel.
Mandy, a mum of two girls from Humberston, said: "I didn't expect to win at all and it has made me feel so emotional – I love my two girls so much.
"I think every mum deserves to be Mum Of The Year because every mum would do what I have done.
"My daughter began with an eating disorder two years ago and I have guided and supported her every step of the way.
"I listened to what she was going through and put myself in her shoes.
"It has been really difficult these past two years because it has been one thing after the other, but we have had so much support from friends and family.
"Natalie, at the Grimsby Eating Disorder Clinic, has been great too."
Mandy, who was overwhelmed with her gifts, believes people have been through worse things then her family.
"My daughter is in recovery at the moment from the disorder and I have supported her every step of the way" she said.
"It was difficult what to do and if I was to pass on any advice to my daughter I would tell them when they have children they should guide them the right way."
Mandy's daughter, who suffers from the eating disorder, wished not to be named but said: "She has given me invaluable advice, and I want her to realise how much I appreciate her patience."
