CULTURAL venues across Grimsby will open into the evening next month as part of the national Museums By Night initiative.
On Friday, May 17, The Fishing Heritage Centre, Time Trap Museum, Abbey Walk Gallery, Gate Gallery and Grimsby Minster will all open later than normal and for free.
Spokeswoman Paula Denton said: "Celebrating the diversity of the heritage and arts venues, this year's Museums By Night theme is Restoration and at each of the venues you will experience an interpretation of this.
"The Driftnet Poets and Merlin's Keep will be making pop-up appearances throughout the evening at the venues, and The Culture House is hosting a theatre performance at the Minster."
The Fishing Heritage Centre atrium and the Muriel Barker gallery will be free to enter between 5pm and 8pm.
Upstairs in the gallery, the Unlocking The Collection and Restorations & New Acquisitions exhibitions will host discovery sessions.
Visitors will be able to step back in time at the Time Trap Museum in the former police cells at Grimsby Town Hall, from 5pm to 8pm.
Abbey Walk Gallery will be open from 5pm to 8pm, with visitors being able to meet the artists in residence and explore the latest exhibition – Excavations And Estuaries: The Nature Of Landscape.
At Gate Gallery, in Brighowgate, will be the work of internationally-acclaimed local artist, Sue Stone.
Using recycled materials whenever possible, her work often references the passing of time and the transience of life.
Sue will be on hand to talk about her work and demonstrate her skills and techniques from 5pm to 8pm.
Grimsby Minister will be hosting activities and events from 4pm to 10.30pm.
Between 4pm and 5pm, there will be a have-a-go brass rubbing class and Minster Detective activities, involving hunting for clues to solve challenges.
An evensong choral service by the Choristers and Choir of Grimsby Minster will run from 5.30pm to 6pm. At both 6.15pm and 8.15pm The Culture House will present a free, ticket-only theatre performance in the Minster's community room.
An Icy Man, by Matthew Bellwood, is performed to 19 people at a time who sit around a table to watch.
Limited tickets are available from Caxton Box Office at Grimsby Library on 01472 346251 or online at www.theculturehouse.co.uk
There will also be performances by Merlin's Keep, Driftnet Poets, Breakwater Theatre and the Dilettante Trio with refreshments and bar facilities available until 10.30pm.
