JAMES McKeown may be attracting interest from other clubs, but Grimsby Town's bosses have no intention of letting him move on this summer.
The Mariners goalkeeper has been in superb form behind the meanest defence in the Conference.
Having picked the ball out of his net just 37 times in the league, the 23-year-old must be amongst the candidates for Town's Player of the Season award on May 1.
And his stunning man-of-the-match display in Tuesday evening's play-off sealing victory at Dartford will have done his reputation no harm.
Co-manager Paul Hurst believes 'Macca' is one of the top stoppers in the division, and appreciates that he will be attracting 'unwanted' attention.
"James has stepped up a level this season," Hurst told the Telegraph.
"He's done very well and can go on to play higher.
"We want that to be with us, but his performances over the season have been impressive enough that I'm sure there are people taking notice of him.
"We've seen a couple of good keepers in the league this season but he is certainly right up there.
"As things stand, we certainly haven't had an offer or anything like that, but James is no different to a lot of our players – people will be watching them.
"We've got no intention of letting him move on. We want him here and hope we can move up the football pyramid together."
Hurst and joint boss Rob Scott knew what they were getting when they signed the former Peterborough man in June 2011, having previously managed him on loan at Boston United.
Now in his second season as the Town number one, McKeown's concentration levels have benefited from regular action.
And Hurst is adamant that a summer switch wouldn't necessarily be a wise move for the Brummie.
"I'm not sure a move would help James' develop unless he's still playing," added Hurst.
"As a striker, there's often two starting positions and a few places on the bench for you to go for, especially in the Football League with seven subs.
"But as a keeper, you're either playing or you're not. So if James got a move, is he going to go as number one?
"Or, with his age, someone might want to take him and look to develop him for a couple of years.
"That could see him training every day with someone new, and even at bigger clubs I'm not sure he's going to get a better coach than Steve Croudson.
"Steve works extremely hard with our keepers and they've got a great relationship.
"The Conference has come a long way in terms of the standard, people know that.
"But on the flipside, James is at a good club here. We want it to be a league club again and if teams were interested they would have to pay a good price for him."
