PROLIFIC shoplifter Claire Wilson – dubbed a "one-woman crime wave" – was given one more chance to stay out of trouble.

Wilson, who has about 200 previous offences to her name, received a 12-month community order with 12 months supervision from the Probation Service after she admitted eight offences of theft and six breaches of a previous antisocial behaviour order.

At Grimsby Crown Court, she was described as a "prolific career criminal".

Recorder Tahir Khan told the 39-year-old, formerly of Redbourne Road, Nunsthorpe, Grimsby, who has just become a grandmother: "You know at your age you should not be appearing before court. You have had plenty of chances in the past and messed up."

He warned Wilson that if she did not take advantage of this last opportunity she would be locked up.

Prosecuting, Gordon Stables said the eight theft offences and Asbo breaches were committed between May 8 and July 26.

They included entering Asda's George clothing section on May 8 in breach of the two-year Asbo imposed in December 2011.

She also admitted going into a Spar shop, in Grimsby, and committing two thefts in one day on May 13.

Thefts also took place at a store in Kirkgate, Waltham, and the Co-op, in Cleethorpes.

Mr Stables did not disclose the goods stolen in each case, but said there had been a variety of goods stolen and were "typical shoplifting items".

He said one of the thefts on May 14 involved stealing the purse of shopper Anna Marsh, at Morrisons, Scunthorpe.

The shopper noticed Wilson behind her and then saw her purse was missing from her bag. She alerted staff.

Wilson attempted to get away and hid the purse in the broccoli section.

For Wilson, Simon Hirst said his client had become a grandmother for the first time recently and had a history of problems.
