MORE than 500,000 extra cars have passed over the Humber Bridge since the tolls were halved last year.
Officials and campaigners say the figures vindicate the decision to cut the tolls that came into force on April 1 last year.
The move saw the charge for crossing the bridge halved from £3 to £1.50 for cars.
The cost was wiped out altogether for motorcyclists, with reductions for other types of vehicle also introduced.
Figures up to March 3 show that 527,729 extra cars have passed over the bridge since the tolls were cut, an increase of more than nine per cent.
