I DRIVE regularly through Barnoldby-le-Beck heading up to the A18/Barton Street and have observed at first hand the antics of local councillors.
These people who doubtless pride themselves on their green credentials, put a sort of gateway, which stretches halfway across the road, at each end of the village.
It is an accident waiting to happen (where previously there was no such danger).
Additionally, due to all the gear changing, slowing down/accelerating away, literally tons of additional CO² must have been pumped into the atmosphere as direct result of this "green expertise".
Also, the road in question is in a terrible state as regards potholes.
One has to swerve to avoid the worst of them.
Imagine my relief when one recent morning workmen were limbering up for a hard day's graft.
Temporary traffic lights had caused a considerable tailback, but, hey, you can't make an omelette without breaking the wotsits can you?
So I forced a friendly smile and drove on.
Imagine my sense of disbelief when several hours later, anticipating a smooth bumpless transition through the village, the road was unchanged but a brand new (super-smooth) tarmac cycle path was glistening in the rain. That's right, a cycle path.
Perhaps a dozen people a day might use this facility as yards away hundreds of vehicles crunch their way around the mini-crators.
God help us.

The Telegraph says
Potholes are a nationwide problem that has arisen due to the servere weather – it begs a question about the state of our highways right across the UK, and not just in North East Lincolnshire.
