ROB Scott can't wait to lead his Grimsby Town side out at Wembley tomorrow in front of thousands of Mariners fans – and his family.
Scott and Paul Hurst will celebrate their second anniversary as joint bosses today, by taking their players for a look around the 90,000-seater stadium ahead of the FA Trophy final.
It will be the Mariners' fourth appearance at the home of English football after their two winning trips in 1998 and the not so successful return ten years on.
But for Scott, it will be his first time at HQ as a player or manager, and he admits that it will be a moment to saviour for him and his co-manager.
"It will make me very proud to lead the team out at Wembley, there's no doubt about that," he told the Telegraph ahead of the clash with Wrexham.
"It will make me proud to lead the team out in front of 16,000 or 17,000 Grimsby Town fans – and my wife, my little baby, my parents, my brother and immediate family will all be there.
"That's great for me personally as I never did it as a player, but we want to win most for the fans.
"We want to give them something to cheer about. Every time I walk into Blundell Park and to our office, there are pictures of Grimsby Town playing at Wembley however long ago it was.
"I'd like to have some new pictures on the wall of a victorious team at Wembley.
"I'll be determined to get that result for the fans, for the directors and for the staff behind the scenes because they've worked hard this season to try to get everything right.
"Paul and I have come in and been here two years now, so they've had a lot to deal with us and the way we want to do things, and it's a little bit of payback for them."
Victories over Buxton, Havant & Waterlooville, Welling, Luton and Dartford have taken the Mariners into the final of non-league football's premier cup competition.
Scott insists that his players will make the town and their families proud at Wembley – provided they "work their socks off."
"If we do win, it will be fantastic to put down alongside some great memories I've got as a player," he added.
"This will obviously rank well up there and will be the highest achievement I've got as a young manager.
"But win or lose, I want the players to come away saying they've tried everything to get the win."
"So when they go to meet their families after the game or they bump into supporters, the fans can say 'you really worked hard to get that win' or 'you really worked hard regardless of what happened.'
"As a player, I wouldn't want to come off and be told by my dad that I had a poor game.
"There are times when you don't have a great game but you put a shift in, you work your hardest and stop your immediate opponent from playing - you build your way back into the game by working your socks off and earning your luck.
"That's what we want from Grimsby Town's players at Wembley tomorrow."
