MOTORCYCLE legend Roger Marshall is encouraging locals to attend this evening's fundraising event for talented young racer Joe Francis. Starting at 7.30pm – at the Tilted Barrel in Waltham – regulars will hand over a cheque to help support 15-year-old Francis. Having already competed at the GB Championships, finishing fifth in his youth category last year, the Grimsby starlet is targeting big things in the sport. Marshall, pictured, said: "I can see an awful lot of promise. Joe has everything – he is super relaxed, very confident on the bike and has a bright future ahead. "In 2011 he won the Super Teen Championships, and he was only 13 at the time. He went to the British on a 125cc last year and performed really well. "After that I have worked hard with Joe throughout the season. He is due to compete at the British again this year, and he should do even better." Former racer Marshall – who won 12 British Championships during an outstanding career – is part of a 16-man fundraising syndicate. Although tonight will be a celebration for Marshall, Francis and everyone else involved, the team are planning to indefinitely continue their financial support. Marshall added: "Some of the people that follow Joe at the Titled Barrel thought it would be a nice idea to raise money for him and, in turn, help his parents fund a promising career. "We didn't set a target – but we are going to keep it going. It will all help Joe with bills and general maintenance costs. Joe's mum and dad have paid out for things since he was eight or nine. They never go on holidays because they throw everything towards his racing."
