Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Hardwick has appointed an independent police officer to open an investigation into the suspension of the county's chief constable Neil Rhodes.
Sir Peter Fahy, chief constable of Greater Manchester Police will investigate Mr Rhodes, who was suspended from duty over two weeks ago by the PCC.
Mr Hardwick, who is yet to announce the details behind the suspension, said: ""I am pleased to appoint Sir Peter Fahy to conduct an independent and rigorous investigation and I look forward to receiving his findings in due course."
Meanwhile, Home Secretary Theresa May has received a letter from Lincoln MP Karl McCartney into the matter.
A Home Office spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a letter was received today concerning the suspension of acting chief constable Neil Rhodes.
"As an investigation is on-going and legal proceedings have been launched, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
