EXPORTING food is this firm's trade, so generous staff were quick to join the Ten Tonnes Of Tins campaign and make a difference to families experiencing food poverty in North East Lincolnshire.
Ramsdens International, based in Adam Smith Street, in Grimsby, is the latest local business to sign up to the worthy initiative, with staff donating food instead of cash during a dress-down day.
With your help, we are attempting to collect 10 tonnes of tinned and packet food for those in need. We want schools, businesses and members of the community to come together and donate what they can to Ten Tonnes Of Tins.
The current economic downturn has led to a huge increase in the number of struggling individuals and families turning to the Daily Bread Food Larder at Christian Action Resource Enterprise (Care).
Last year, the charity handed out 468 emergency food parcels to people in North East Lincolnshire from its headquarters in Hainton Avenue, Grimsby.
However, the charity has given away 129 food packages in January alone, and staff expect the situation to get even worse.
Emily Kerr, from Holton-le-Clay, is an office assistant at Ramsdens International and said her team are always enthusiastic about helping good causes.
"We have been collecting food for the past two weeks," she said.
"When we saw the campaign in the Telegraph, we wanted to get involved. Exporting food is what the firm does, so it only seemed right.
"We have all brought lots in to donate and the company has donated a lot as well.
"We hope our donations can make a big difference to people's lives."
Care is delighted with the response it has had so far. Food parcels are one of the many areas in which the charity tries to relieve poverty, hardship and distress.
A typical food package will last a person or a family three days. The idea is not to be able to feed someone for a sustained period of time, but to help them out of a crisis.
