"THIS is a surgery our patients deserve."
Those were the words of Dr Omar Qureshi, who expressed his delight at the new Taylor's Avenue Medical Centre, in Cleethorpes, during its official opening yesterday.
Dr Qureshi joined Dr Mushtaq Zaro's practice in December as an independent GP and feels "privileged" to begin his career in a "magnificent building".
He said: "I have worked in Grimsby since 2005, in hospital medicine at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.
"I know Dr Zaro has waited a long time for this new centre and he believes the wait has been worth it.
"Our patients deserve to have this high-standard GP surgery."
The official opening had various delegates of North East Lincolnshire in attendance.
From ward councillors, developers and planners to medical staff and Grimsby Town goalkeeper James McKeown who cut the ribbon to declare the centre open.
He said: "It is nice to be invited to do things like this.
"Everyone will need a doctor at some point and this centre looks fantastic and I'm sure will be good for both current and new patients.
"Attending events like this is my way, as a Grimsby Town player, of giving back to the community who support us."
The centre also houses Dr Sylvere Dijoux and partners.
Dr Dijoux believes this new build is a significant change and will benefit patients in the community.
"The surgery is spacious and the car park has plenty of room as well," he said.
"Although we have moved to a new facility, patient care will always remain the same to a high standard."
Dr Dijoux's patient, Jean Bilsby, of Humberston, said: "I have good and bad thoughts towards this new centre.
"It is further away than my previous one, so I have to find transport and the buses are not very convenient to get here.
"However, I think this new centre will benefit the community, it is clean, very smart and I felt comfortable inside it."
Each surgery in the centre has two GP rooms, a nurse practitioners and district nurses' room, and there is also a shared minor surgery treatment room.
There is a Spar shop and off-licence on site for the public to use. The surgery will be open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6.30pm.
