A SCHOOLBOY has been excluded after igniting an aerosol and using it to threaten a 12-year-old fellow pupil.
The girl from Oasis Academy Immingham was threatened by fellow pupils as she walked home from school.
Today the Academy's principal Kevin Rowlands, pictured, said the boy responsible had been excluded and further action may be taken.
Humberside Police appealed for information from anyone, particularly any parents who were outside the school at the end of the school day.
The Year 8 student was approached between 3pm and 3.15pm on Tuesday in School Walk outside the academy.
A group of two girls and one boy entered into a verbal altercation with her and then the boy was handed an aerosol can, believed to be a deodorant, and a cigarette lighter by the two girls. He lit it, and brandished it close to the girl, threatening her.
She was not injured and ran away, pursued by the boy for about 40 metres.
A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "It is thought that numerous parents were collecting children from school at the time and may have witnessed the incident."
Mr Rowlands sought to reassure parents and said the exclusion of the boy followed an immediate investigation into the attack.
He said: "There will be further action taken pending our on-going investigation.
"Although this happened outside the school we accept responsibility for all of our pupils. We have acted and taken the severe action. We can't prejudge any further action but there are wider concerns."
He added the safety of all pupils at the academy were his paramount concern.
Mr Rowlands said there are no staff carrying out regular security checks at the academy apart from when information is received and pupils are searched.
"The parents are right to be upset. It happened after school but our ethos is they are still our students regardless of whether anything happens inside or outside of school."
He said the discipline record at the academy was good.
A parent of a 12-year-old at oasis Academy Immingham who did not wish to be named said: "It is shocking. It is every parent's worst nightmare thinking their child is being threatened.
"I have never heard anything like that happening in Immingham ever before. It is terrible. There isn't usually a problem with discipline."
Anyone who saw all or part of the incident is asked to contact Humberside Police on the non emergency number 101 referring to log number 369 of February 14 or alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
