PLANS for Lincoln's new University Technical College (UTC) will be on show to the public in exhibitions being held across the region.
The creation of the Lincoln UTC, which specialises in engineering and core science, is being jointly developed and supported by Lincoln College, the University of Lincoln and Siemens in Lincoln and was announced in May.
UTCs are a new concept in education that offer 14 to 19-year-olds the opportunity to take a highly regarded, full-time, technically-oriented course of study.
They are equipped to the highest standard, sponsored by a university and employers to offer clear progression routes into higher education or further learning in work.
Learning is delivered in a practical way, integrating national curriculum requirements with technical and vocational elements.
The UTC ethos and curriculum is heavily influenced by local and national employers who also provide support and work inspiration for students.
UTC spokesman Simon Plummer said: "The three partner organisations have collectively put in a huge amount of work to support the development of the new UTC in Lincoln.
"We are delighted to be able to share this now with potential students and local communities, who will benefit from the resources that the new college will offer.
"The public consultations will demonstrate what we hope to achieve and how the college will complement vocational and educational initiatives across the region.
"It will also be an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to find out more about how attending the UTC could benefit their future."
Applications will be submitted to Lincoln City Council for the development of a new facility to house the UTC, which will open in September 2014.
The public exhibitions will be hosted by the three UTC partners – in five locations that form part of the total catchment area for the college. Representatives from the three main sponsoring organisations will be on hand to answer any questions regarding these plans.
The public exhibitions will take place at the following locations, from 6pm on each date:
Tuesday, February 5: Holbeach – National Centre for Food Manufacturing, University of Lincoln's Holbeach Campus, Spalding, PE12 7PT.
