THE life-size Santa's sleigh which has delighted children on Grimsby's Nunsthorpe Estate for the past eight years has been saved from the scrap heap.
As reported in the Grimsby Telegraph, members of the Nunsthorpe Together community group appealed for someone to take the popular attraction off their hands.
They could no longer hold on to the sleigh, which parades around the estate every Christmas time, after moving out of their base in St Martin's Church Hall.
And their appeal was spotted by Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, who promptly offered to give the sleigh, and its model reindeer, a home at Peaks Lane Fire Station.
Fittingly, the sleigh was greeted with a brief snow shower as it arrived at its new abode.
It will be used in the winter months to promote fire safety across North East Lincolnshire and raise money for the Fire Fighter's Charity.
Nunsthorpe Together has already offered the services of its current Father Christmas.
Jo Peart, community safety advocate at Humberside Fire and Rescue, who spotted the appeal, said: "It would have been a real shame to lose this sleigh. We will be able to use it as an engagement tool to reach those families that we normally find hard to get in touch with."
Her colleague, community safety technician Lindsay Howden, said: "Jo spotted it in the paper and I phoned up Nunsthorpe Together and they gave us first refusal.
"We will be able to use it to get out into the community, to support the Fire Fighters Charity, and to give fire safety advice."
