HOW great it is to finally see that some of the area's football coaches are starting to get the recognition their hard work deserves.
Earlier this month it was announced that Geoff Bartholomew, who runs the Discoveries Football Club, will receive a newly reintroduced BEM (British Empire Medal), for 40 years' work with youth football in Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
And after being named as the FA's Volunteer of the Year in October, Neil Barber has now been selected as an ambassador for the organisation's 150th anniversary celebrations.
Barber has been recognised for his work with West Marsh Community Centre Junior Football Club.
This area has hundreds of volunteers who selflessly dedicate themselves to running and coaching amateur teams – from juniors right the way through to the more seasoned veterans.
It can often be a thankless task, and even though the majority of those individuals don't offer their time in the hope of recognition, it is nice when they do.
Now we just need to get the recognition for the tireless work of coaches in other sports.
See tomorrow's Grimsby Telegraph for an interview with Barber about his appointment as an FA ambassador and what is was like to rub shoulders with footballing royalty at the FA's anniversary bash earlier this month.
